I was lucky enough to meet Janet during her pregnancy with her son, Josh. I was shocked to hear her story leading up to the pregnancy and was amazed at her spirit and ability to face life’s challenges with such determination and resolve. When I received my own infertility diagnosis shortly thereafter, I immediately turned to Janet for guidance. She helped me ride out the rollercoaster of emotion one goes through after being told they may never conceive, as well as address the identity issues that plagued me.
I realized how much of my self worth I was placing on my ability (or inability) to have a child and that it was negatively affecting all other areas of my life. Janet was a tremendous help in leading me to a point of peace with my situation – to appreciate all the good I had in my life and to stop measuring myself and my value based on my fertility.
Ironically, after I made peace with my condition and chose to focus on all the reasons I had to be thankful in my life – and to be grateful, even if I remained childless… I fell pregnant! Talk about stepping off one emotional rollercoaster onto another one! This time, I was plagued with fear of losing my child, and struggling with the physical and emotional changes that accompany pregnancy. Once again, I turned to Janet for help. She calmly and gently brought me back into proper perspective when I was having a panic attack or an emotional meltdown.
Overall, an indispensable resource regardless of where you are on your journey – whether just beginning, in the midst of fertility treatments or during pregnancy!
